DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE?
Self-awareness is the process of paying attention to yourself. Our thoughts, feelings, attitudes, motivations and actions are part of being self-aware. I have an attitude towards eating Beets. I won't eat them. I am not motivated to eat them. My action is to not eat them. What are you self-aware of in your life? I just chose my simple analogy of eating beets to offset my need to write a thesis on "Life Adjustments". Too, I might add that pickled eggs and tofu are equally repulsive to me. There are of course much larger issues in life that face us.
There are hurts that cut us right to our core. There are issues of health to adjust too. The list goes on and is individual to each of us. If you'd like, please post your thoughts on your self-awareness.
Self-honesty is the ability to see your strengths and weaknesses clearly. However, if you are fortunate, someone else is always happy to help you see your weaknesses. Self-honesty is the foundation of self-knowledge. "Am I seeing myself as I really am? Am I overconfident or am I selling myself short? How do you view yourself?
There are benefits of self-honesty. When you are honest with yourself, you are able to get in touch with your dreams, values and interests. Taking pride in your progress because you know that you have set meaningful goals, and reached them is a wonderful thing. Who you are, what you think, and how you feel are all in harmony. This is a Biblical value also. When I wake up in the morning and go look in the mirror I have to be self-aware of how I look, and be honest with myself realizing I need to make some drastic changes. My dog does not know who I am in the morning. But I try to become presentable to the outside world by looking in the mirror. I'm being honest and aware of the fact that I look like a creepy zombie because of being honest and self-aware. It would be quicker to put a paper bag on my head and hide the changes I need to make. Do you take pride in yourself and the changes that God and others have helped you to achieve? I was taught "Pride goeth before a fall..." but the kind of pride that we can have in ourselves is part of His plan. He created us to have a healthy pride. But when pride goes to far, it will make you fall. One example, of a good confident prideful feeling happened on an extreme horse trail ride. The guy on the lead horse yelled "we are going to have to dismount and let our horses carry us up the mountain". I looked at the steep grade and very low lying branches and thought OH NO he didn't just say that! But it was amazing to hang onto the saddle horn, let the horse "have his head" which just means we weren't putting pressure on the bit in the horses mouth. All the horses just started digging in and plowing up the steep grade like bulldozers. My feet were off the ground because the angle was so steep. But when we got to the top of the hill--I was one proud horse momma! What exciting things do you have to discover about yourself by being aware and honest of what you want to do to change your life? Do you have a bucket list? What is on your list?
